Hi! We are Shannon and Ken, a couple of average white collar workers who spent years trying to make the most of our weekends. Living for decades in South Florida (Palm Beach County and Miami), we visited natural and historic areas in South Florida and around the country as business travel and vacations allowed. We used the blog to document our experiences and motivate us to seek out interesting places and people.
In February 2018, we made adventure the centerpiece of our lives, embarking on an ambitious plan to travel the country for several years in our Airstream travel trailer to visit as many national park units and other points of interest as possible. The tally of experiences keeps growing as we hike, visit botanical gardens, take photos, and figure out what awaits us down the road.
“I’ve come to look for America.”
– Simon & Garfunkel, also us
After several years of continuous travel, we were grounded by the Covid-19 pandemic and spent a year living in the trailer while building a home on St. George Island Florida. We used the beach house as a home base and engaged in lots of environmentally-focused citizen science while continuing to take shorter trips in the RV.
In 2024 we embarked on a totally new lifestyle. We sold the Airstream to change up the destinations we visited, and we relocated to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to enjoy the environment of a small city and college town.
Check out our travel maps from various years (links in the header above) to see where we’ve been and find the related blog posts.
About Shannon
I was previously a lawyer at a large international law firm. I write the blog and take most of the photos. My interests include history, kitsch, science (especially botany), do-it-yourself projects, and all manner of interesting trivia.
About Ken
Ken was a finance professional who thinks just about anything useful in the world can be accomplished using Excel. Ken is a fan of virtually all sports (sorry, baseball), SQL databases, any place with an ocean view, art, and dogs that follow commands.
